Support for wine industry
1 min read

AN investment in the Barossa, valued at $220,000, was announced by the State Government during a visit to the region last week.

The funding will support a series of unique wine experiences, aimed at attracting tourists, and is a response to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the sector.

Primary industries and regional development minister David Basham said the funding support helps the wine industry during one of its most challenging times.

“The Marshall Liberal Government has named 2021 ‘The Year of South Australian Wine’ to encourage the community to support the sector as it manages the downturn in tourism and the impacts of market disruptions,” he said.

“This $220,000 funding injection is aimed at attracting more visitors to experience what our wine region has to offer, while strengthening the capability of the wineries to offer diverse experiences.

“...I have met with key stakeholders and discussed the challenges facing the industry and together we have identified that increasing visitation to regions and wineries is key to the short-term recovery of the industry.”

The $220,000 funding contribution from the South Australian Wine Industry Development Scheme includes a $100,000 grant program focused on new unique wine experiences.

A further $50,000 will be used to develop a South Australian wine trail app and statewide website to trade directly with consumers.

$25,000 each will be directed to the hosting of a weekend of wine in Adelaide and digital literacy and cellar door experience workshops.

A ‘Healthy Minds, Healthy Vines’ project will receive a $20,000 injection.
