A BRAD Wilson-led Mallala has continued its undefeated run, beating Angle Vale by 57 points in Adelaide Plains A-grade football on Saturday.
The Magpies blew the Owls out of the water early and were up by 59 points at quarter-time.
It didn’t get any easier for Angle Vale, as Mallala lead blew out to 72 points at the main break, and then 89 points at three-quarter-time.
However, the Owls can take confidence into this week against Hummocks after they booted 6.4 to 1.2 in the final quarter to cut the deficit to below 10 goals.
Wilson booted nine majors for the Pies, while Dan Griffiths, Sam Angas and Riley Thorne all chipped in with two goals each.
Mackenzie Dallison and Bailey Palmer kicked a couple of goals each for the Owls.
Angle Vale coach Troy Treverton said he was surprised with his side’s poor first term and let the boys know his displeasure at quarter-time.
“They were pretty confident before the game based on what we did last week against United, and how we matched them in the contested stuff,” he said.
“Our ability to stop momentum and get the ball in our hands when things get hard is a concern.
“With a young group I was positive in half of my quarter-time address, then I let them have it in the latter half of that.
“I’m grateful there was a response, even though we didn’t have much of a scoring impact in the second and third quarters.
“In inside 50s from quarter-time onward we actually led the whole game, which was a credit to the lads to stick at it.”
Treverton was delighted with his team’s showing in the fourth quarter, despite the game being long over by then.
“We were running on top of the ground in the last quarter and some of our ball movement was the best I’ve seen,” he said.
“Matty Stewart came back in and gave us a real hard edge around the midfield, his second and third quarters were one of the reasons we got on top in the last (quarter).
“Trent Payne took about 10 to 15 marks in the backline.
“Sean Maher was again outstanding, as was Lachie Mitchell.”
