Strikers show no mercy

GAWLER Strikers continued their relentless domination of the Barossa Valley A-women hockey competition by obliterating Angaston-Moculta United 14-1 on Friday night.

The Strikers led 5-1 at the break, but then beat AMU goalie Cheryl Williams nine more times in the second half.

Jacqui Rowe notched a hattrick, while Jess Mensforth, Hanna Kingsmill, Jay Galmesa and Bri Seabrook all scored twice.

Claire Donaldson, Kelly Rowntree and Jess White also hit the scoreboard.

Meanwhile, Tanunda crushed rival Nuriootpa 8-0.

Emma Drew and young talent Sophie Collings both scored hattricks, while Lisa Laycock and Laura Flowers added the finishing touches in the rout.

In the A-men competition, Nuriootpa overcame Tanunda 3-1.

The sides were locked away at nil-all at half-time, but Nuri broke through easily in the second half.

Greg Schulz, Jai Lowke and Jordan Krzoska scored for the victors, while Josh Hancock got one back for the Pies.

Meanwhile, Gawler-Trinity Old Scholars provided the shock of the round as it defeated AMU 1-0.

In B-women competition, Trinity Old Scholars defeated Clare United 3-0.

Kelly Ahrens was terrific and scored a hat-trick for the victors.

Meanwhile, Gawler was beaten 1-5 by Tanunda.

Kerry Johnson scored the Strikers’ only goal, while Mel Partington and Jan Falconer dominated proceedings, scoring twice.

In the final game of the round, AMU knocked off Nuriootpa 1-0.

In B-men action, Trinity Old Scholars secured a 1-0 win over Tanunda White.

Damian Drew scored for the TOSers.

Elsewhere, AMU Blue enjoyed a 7-2 win over Nuriootpa Gold.

Craig Johnson scored a hattrick, while Doug Collis walked away with two goals.

In the other games, Nuriootpa Green and AMU Maroon drew 1-1 and Tanunda Black defeated Clare United 3-2.
