KAPUNDA and Angaston added some
silverware to the trophy cabinet on Sunday
by taking home the under-16 and under-
13 Barossa, Light & Gawler Football
Association women’s premierships in
front of a big crowd.
First up, the Panthers’ under-13s ran out
in front of a rowdy home crowd and proved
why it was the best side in the competition
all season, beating Kapunda 7.3 (45) to 3.1
(19).
Angaston was led by superstar Miyu
Endersby, who looked in a class of her own
as the biggest, strongest and most skilled
player on the field.
Endersby played in the ruck, dominated
the clearances and was the only player
to kick multiple goals, including one from
nearly 40 metres out.
Angaston also received a great performance
from Matilda Barrett.
For the Bombers, Olivia Leslie and Ava
Johnson were the shining lights in a team
that didn’t play poorly, but just ran into a
class side on the last day of the season.
Following the celebrations and presentations,
Kapunda and Barossa District played
an incredibly high-pressure first quarter,
with each side getting only one shot on goal
as the tackling was red hot.
While a number of the Bulldogs looked
tired heading into the second quarter, the
Bombers rose to the occasion, collecting another
two goals to head into half-time up 3.2
(20) to 0.1 (1).
Barossa District was brave in the second
half, kicking its only goal courtesy of Moni
Sandery and holding the Bombers scoreless
in the final quarter. But Kapunda already
had a winning break, and finished it off to
win 4.2 (26) to 1.5 (11).
Mikaylah Antony won best-on-ground
after a season as arguably the best midfielder
in the competition, while Sophie Eaton
kicked a goal and would not have been far
behind.
Kirra Tonkin and Shyla Tucker were the
Bulldogs’ best and should be proud after an
excellent season, losing only to Kapunda.
The games were less competitive in the
seniors, where for the fourth time in six
games, Willaston held its opponent scoreless,
winning 13.11 (89) to zero.
After kicking eight goals last week, Central
District full forward Katelyn Rosenzweig
booted a bag of seven, while Jessica
Wendland kicked three.
Tess Giltrap was named best-on-ground
for the Donnybrooks, with Lauren Smith
and Darna Veen also putting in good performances.
Barossa District produced a similar showing
against Angaston, winning 6.8 (44) to
1.0 (6).
Kyesha Christensen was named best-onground
for the Bulldogs, kicking two goals,
while teenager Hayley Henke kicked the
Panthers’ only major.
Rounding out the day’s play, Gawler Central
came away with a dominant 11.9 (75) to
0.1 (1) win against Tanunda.
SANFL players Demi Sonneman, Jovanka
Zecevic and future AFL player Laitiah
Huynh showed their class throughout. The
talent of this Tiger outfit will be difficult to
overcome once its pieces come together.
