TANUNDA started its Barossa,
Light & Gawler Football Association
under-16 women’s season
with a strong win in a hardfought
game against South
Gawler on Sunday afternoon at
South Gawler Oval.
Despite the game being largely
played in the South Gawler attacking
half early, Tanunda managed
to kick two goals and one
behind from its first three entries
inside-50 in an efficient start.
The Lions battled hard in the
contest, but just struggled to get
shots on goal as the Magpies took
a number of marks in their defensive
goal square to head into
halftime leading 2.1 (13) to zero.
Tanunda went on to kick two
goals in each of the next two
quarters, with Peyton Hartung
getting three on the day, while
Amelia Brooks kicked South
Gawler’s only major in the third
quarter before the game finished
6.2 (38) to 1.0 (6).
Barossa District won a terrific
game against Kapunda 7.1 (43) to
6.6 (42), with the Bulldogs’ accuracy
delivering the result.
Barossa District led 6.1 (37) to
4.3 (27) after three quarter time,
and despite a fast finish from
the Bombers, including a pair
of goals for Britnie Antony, one
Bulldog goal in the final term was
enough to hold on for the win.
Willaston showed why it sets
the standard for women’s footy
in the Barossa as it started the
season with a 3.4 (22) to 2.2 (14)
win over Angaston.
Isabel Spooner kicked two of
the three Donnybrook goals, with
Akeira-Juliet Whichello snagging
the other as Willaston held
a lead at the end of each quarter.
Angaston flipped the script in
the under-13s, hammering Willaston
13.8 (86) to 1.1 (7) after
heading into halftime up 6.5 (41)
to zero.
Aaliyah Kuhn, Sienna Webster-
Payne and Matilda Barrett
kicked three goals each for the
Panthers, while Miyu Endersby
and Harper Kendle grabbed two
each in a high-scoring match.
Tanunda gave Freeling a similar
beating, taking a 11.16 (82) to
1.0 (6) win as Scarlett Bird-Fidge
kicked a bag of seven goals before
suiting up for the under-16s
later in the day.
Kapunda made it three blowouts
in a row for the under-13s,
handling Barossa District comfortably
on the way to a 12.8 (80)
to zero win.
