SOUTH Gawler is now only one game outside of the top two after it crushed Willaston by 25 goals in Barossa, Light & Gawler senior one netball.
The Lions started slowly, and trailed by two goals at the quarter-time break.
However, South’s defence began to get on top, and restricted the Donnybrooks to just 10 goals for the quarter while netting 20 of its own.
The Lions’ onslaught continued, as they piled on a further 18 goals to Willaston’s five to lead by 19 goals at three-quarter-time.
South refused to take the foot off of Willaston’s throat, and blew the margin out further to gain a percentage boost on second-placed
Barossa District.
South playing-coach Bec Brading was pleased with her side’s response after a poor opening quarter.
“We started slow, it took us a while to work into the game,” she said.
“Once we were able to shut down their goalies it was good.
“All the mid-courters were terrific.”
“Kayla (Vial) in goal keeper managed to shut down their goalie and through the mid court, Stacey (Nelson) was great to feeding into the
goalies.
“Their defenders were quite physical, both of our goalies did a great job beating them.”
Willaston will go in heavy favourites this week against bottom side Tanunda, while the Lions take on Angaston.
“Last time against them we started really well but we relaxed off in the third quarter,” Brading said.
“I guess with Kapunda winning on the weekend against Barossa, we need to boost our percentage if we want to finish in the top two.
“Against Angaston one of our improvements was feeding into the goal circle, we didn’t know each other that well in round one.
“I think going into this game the goalies have a lot more confidence, so do the mid-court.”

The Tigers recovered from their 14-goal loss to the Lions to comfortably dispose of the bottom placed Magpies.
Finally, Angaston obliterated Freeling by 42 goals.
The Panthers snapped a five-game losing streak, while the Redlegs are just hovering above Tanunda in eighth place.
