Slab poured for activity centre
1 min read

CONSTRUCTION is now under way on a new activity centre for Barossa Enterprises at Nuriootpa.

The project was made possible with funding under the State Government’s Future Job Fund, which aims to grow opportunities for people living with a disability and support-worker jobs in the Barossa Valley.

Barossa Enterprises chief executive Garry Velt said it was hoped the centre would be completed by November, after its construction was pushed back due to a lengthy development approval process and COVID-19.

“We’ve just laid the slab and will have cause to celebrate at the end of the year...hopefully with a combined Christmas party,” he said.

“Finally with this centre, we’ll be able to run with new programs and activities, and have new opportunities in our organisation. We can do this and continue running the groups we already do because there’ll be enough space.”

Currently, Barossa Enterprises delivers group activities through the House of Hope, but the new activity centre will provide a more “fit-for-purpose space”.

The centre will feature three large rooms that can be closed off and opened, as well as its own gym and plenty of space for activities such as art or dance classes.

There will be office spaces available, providing opportunity to expand across the organisation, as well as a semi-commercial kitchen, production and marketing space that can be used by small businesses.

Charging bays for electric vehicles and a large instalment of solar panels will help ensure the space is prepared for the future.
