Serving up lunch in the Barossa

TV’S MasterChef judge Andy Allen was in the Barossa Valley over the weekend as part of the Tasting Australia food and drink festival.

Allen, who is head chef of the famous Three Blue Ducks restaurant, treated guests at Yalumba winery to a fourcourse feasting menu, as part of a soldout Farm Gate Lunch event.

He was joined by Tasting Australia food curator Darren Robertson, and the Barossa’s Vintners Bar & Grill head chef Peter Clarke.

Allen joined MasterChef last year as one of three new judges on Channel 10’s competitive cooking reality series, having previously won as a contestant in 2012.

Earlier this year, he appeared as a cohost in a new cooking show titled Three Blue Ducks, which saw him and fellow co-owners travel throughout Australia to find inspiration for new dishes that will appear on their restaurant’s permanent menu.

Meanwhile, the 10-day Tasting Australia festival wrapped up on Sunday, with more than 50,000 people visiting the Town Square in Victoria Square and more than 90 events sold out across Adelaide and regional South Australia.

Tasting Australia Festival director Simon Bryant said the local hospitality industry had proven its resilience amid the significant challenges presented by COVID-19.

“There’s a real sense of pride among everyone involved in this year’s festival that comes from continuing to share the world-class experiences South Australia is renowned for,” Mr Bryant said.

“We invite guests to explore, to discover something new and to support our community of passionate producers.”

The festival saw more than 140 events held across 11 regions, supporting and utilising almost 200 South Australian businesses.
