REIGNING Barossa, Light &
Gawler Football Association senior
women’s premier Willaston
kicked its season off in style on
Friday night under lights at Gawler
Central, not allowing Barossa
District to score in a 3.3 (21) to
zero win.
It was a tight arm-wrestle in the
first quarter with no goals scored,
but Willaston was able to snag two
majors in the second term before
adding another in the last stanza,
with Jessica Wendland, Dakota
Williams and Megan Walker hitting
the scoreboard.
It was easier going for Angaston
against Gawler Central, with the
Panthers running away with a 11.7
(72) to 1.1 (7) win as Jessica Lovegrove
kicked four goals.
Hayley Henke, Aimee Dunstall
and Willaston premiership player
Bonnie Holdsworth all kicked
multiple goals for Angaston, while
Abbey King slotted through the
only goal for the Tigers in the third
quarter.
After a first term that ended at
1-1, Kapunda piled on four goals in
the second on the way to a 6.4 (40)
to 2.5 (17) win over Tanunda.
Leading goal-kicker from the
under-16s, Madison Muir, kicked
four for the Bombers, with teammates
Ella Mickan and Tahlia
Wendt completing Kapunda’s
scoring.
Muir then kicked another three
goals on Sunday to lead Kapunda’s
under-16s to a 14.8 (92) to 0.0 win
over Tanunda.
The star-studded Bomber outfit
received strong performances
from guns Sophie Eaton and Britnie
Antony, who kicked a pair of goals
each, while Summar Bird-Fidge and
Abbey Carter fought bravely for the
Magpies.
It was a similar blowout for
Barossa District against South
Gawler as the Bulldogs scored 18.8
(116) and held the Lions scoreless.
Barossa full forward Amalee
Struck kicked five goals for her first
bag of the season, with teammate
Macy Young putting through four.
The closest game in the division
came between Willaston and Angaston,
with the Donnys taking it
3.3 (21) to 2.6 (18).
Akeira-Juliet Whichello, Isabel
Spooner and Tahli Fitzgerald put
through Willaston’s majors, while
further behind the ball, fellow Donnybrooks
Chloe Lee-McConnell
and Tayla Williams were named in
the best players.
Freeling collected its first win of
the under-13 season with a 9.5 (59)
to 4.4 (28) win over Barossa District.
For the Bulldogs, Mia Renfrey
kicked two goals and both Erin
Macdonald and Layla Pentreath
played well, but ultimately it wasn’t
enough. Angaston had four players
who kicked multiple goals in its
11.8 (74) to 2.4 (16) win over Willaston,
with Georgia Bergen and
Matilda Ratcliff being named as
best on the day.
Rounding out the action, Kapunda
received strong performances
from Alyssa Valentine (two goals),
Ava Johnson and Victoria Munday
on the way to a 6.7 (43) to 3.1 (19)
win over Tanunda.
Halle Steinert kicked two for
the Magpies, while Scarlett Bird-
Fidge impressed yet again in the midfield.
