2 min read

GAWLER trainer Gary Searle celebrated a shock win with Regal Domain in the second race at last Wednesday’s meeting at the Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club.

The four-year-old mare started as a $10 outsider and beat David Jolly’s Chappette by two-and-a-half lengths, with John Hyam’s Vosota placing third.

It was Regal Domain’s first career win following four starts.

To start the day, Grant Young’s $13-outsider Hakerak edged out Georgie Henderson’s Samstag and Anthony Webster’s Zaaland, both by under a length.

It was the six-year-old gelding’s opening victory of the season, with its last win coming at Seymour in November 2018.

In race three, Jon O’Connor’s $19 four-year-old gelding Crema On Jetty triumphed over Wayne Francis and Glen Kent’s Holy Torment by a length, with Ken Sweeney’s Austin Raider close behind.

It was Crema on Jetty’s maiden victory following five starts.

In the fourth race on the card, Grant Young’s $19-outsider Newbay Flyer beat out Nicole  Bruggemann’s Ultimate View by just under a length, and Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas’ Gucci Guy by less than two lengths.

It was the three-year-old gelding’s maiden career victory following three starts.

Ryan Balfour’s Hahndorf took out race five ahead of Julia Macgillivray’s Vacant Block and David Jolly’s Bajan.

The result continued a solid start to the new season for the five-year-old gelding, which boasted three placings heading into the race.

In race six, Kylie Huxtable’s Cool Fonzy knocked off John Hickmott’s Abbi Fede by more than a length, and Grant Young’s Exalted Dee by over three lengths.

It was the six-year-old gelding’s second-ever win following 27 starts, which includes 14 placings.

Its last win was at Morphettville in November 2017.

In race seven, Julia Macgillivray’s Enough Swagger beat Emma Hubbard’s Sand Cat and Sue Jaensch’s Miss Mosh.

The four-year-old mare has been in stellar form at Gawler this season, having now won twice and placed once from three starts.

In race eight, Karen Byrnes’ Grinzinger Express pipped Ryan Balfour’s Sonic Deed and Peter Nolan’s Hankstar.

It was the three-year-old filly’s second career victory, and first since it was successful at Wodonga in June.

John Hickmott’s Toorak Road finished off the day with a win over Peter Blanch’s Scare Campaign and Sue Nolan’s Getouttheway by just over one length.

It was the third win of the five-year-old gelding’s career, and its first since saluting at Darwin in August 2018.
