2 min read

GAWLER trainer Gary Searle got the new Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club season off to a perfect start as he celebrated a win in race seven of last Wednesday’s meet.

His $7-outsider Ambishop narrowly edged out Darren Magro’s Spiegel Grove to secure victory.

It was the five-year-old mare’s first triumph since it was victorious at Gawler back in October 2018.

Ambishop’s three career wins have all come at the local track.

Earlier, to start the day, Belinda Simpson’s outsider Undercover Poet won by around half a length from Eric Musgrove’s Beyond Thankful and Grant Young’s Casiraghi.

It was the eight-year-old gelding’s first win since November 2017 at Swan Hill, and its first place since November 2018 at Kilmore.

In race two, John Macmillan’s Silver Jewel won by a length in front of Jordan Frew’s American Hipster and Grant Kluske’s Lyrickin’s Dream.

It was the four-year-old mare’s first career win in its sixth-ever start.

In race three, Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas’ Aliris did the job by half a length from Tony McEvoy’s Recognise and Jordan Frew’s Le Dupe.

It was the four-year-old gelding’s first victory following eight previous starts.

Reigning premier trainer Grant Young got his first win of the new Gawler & Barossa season in race four through Exalted Ruth.

The four-year-old mare beat fellow outsider Diamonds Are, trainer by Phillippe Huserot, by half a length and Ryan Balfour’s Hahndorf by three-and-a-half lengths.

It was the mare’s second consecutive win, following its triumph a fortnight ago, also at Gawler.

In race five, Jordan Flew’s $13-outsider Summer Blaze beat out John Hickmott’s Love From Lucy by just under a length, and Sam Burford’s Rustle Up.

It was the five-year-old gelding’s first career win and first placing since April at Rotorua.

Then, Brian Mueller celebrated in race six as his $17-outsider Fabulous Flipper beat out Ken Sweeney’s Rizski by a length, with Len Jarvis’ Daskulya finishing further back.

It was the six-year-old mare’s first win since it was successful at Strathalbyn back in March 2018.

In the final race of the day, Stacey Kotz got a victory after Sunmate beat Searle’s Miss Elegance and Peter Blanch’s Scare Campaign.

It was the four-year-old gelding’s second consecutive win, following its success at Gawler a fortnight ago.
