Since St Patrick’s Technical College opened in 2007, it has been an innovator in delivering senior secondary education within a vocational education and training context.
The college, located in Edinburgh North, is a purpose-built specialist trade school offering a trade-relevant SACE curriculum, as well as training and apprenticeship pathways for students in Years 10, 11 and 12.
The college’s focus is to provide a different style of education from that of mainstream schools, accommodating students who love to work with their hands and helping find a pathway they are passionate about.
Students are assisted in completing their senior secondary school while concurrently undertaking vocational education and training studies either at school or with an employer through an apprenticeship of traineeship.
The model of education and curriculum provides exceptional foundation skills and knowledge for successful outcomes.

Completing a vocational education and training course through school provides students with a head start into the world of work. The pre-apprenticeship VET programs, and with a comprehensive work experience unit, deepens students’ understanding of their chosen trade and equips them with a great skillset.
The college works with an extensive network of employers, industry associations and group training organisations, to source and promote opportunities for students to start their careers. These employment pathways provide an individual with the opportunity to learn real skills while completing a nationally recognised qualification and earning a wage.
