IMMANUEL Lutheran School Gawler is on the hunt for volunteers to operate lollipops and help control traffic during the busy morning and afternoon school dropoff periods.

Located on Lyndoch road, the school sits on a busy thoroughfare.

Previously, the school had one adult volunteer, with two children assisting the operation of traffic control measures.

Principal Daryl Trigg said the school had a team of faithful volunteers, but could only staff six or seven out of the 10 shifts per week.

“On those other three or four sessions, there were then no rules,” he said

“We needed consistency… so the kids knew what the routines and patterns were.

“What we’d actually like to do is have two adults out there, one on each side... just so it’s a little bit safer. We would appreciate more help.”

People wanting to be involved are encouraged to get in contact with the school on: 8522 5740.

Lollipop operators are required to undergo training conducted by SA Police at the school, and may require a Department of Human Service (DHS) Working with Children Check.

Volunteers are eligible for a free Working with Children Check, which people can apply for online at https://screening.sa.gov.au/applications
