School under construction
2 min read

THE site has been cleared to make way for the brand-new super school at Angle Vale.

Construction work officially started along Riverbank Road, on Thursday, with education minister John Gardner attending to turn the sod.

The new school is set to open for Term 1, 2022 and will accommodate up to 1675 students, including 100 inclusive places for students with a disability and a 75-place children’s centre.

“I know that the local community will be looking forward to watching the progress of this build and to see the land fully-transformed and ready for learning in 2022,” Mr Gardner said.

“We are confident that local families and the community will embrace this new local education hub that will offer modern, state-of-the-art facilities for their child to learn in.”

Mr Gardner said the school’s build, by Sarah Constructions, will provide another major jobs boost for the state’s construction industry.

“There are going to be hundreds and hundreds of people working on this site through-out the course of the construction of the new school, and alongside the new schools we’ve got at Aldinga and Whyalla, this will be well in excess of 1000 jobs over the life of the build,” he said.

Sarah Constructions chief executive Adrian Esplin said the project is on track for success.

“Our people are thrilled to be working on such a bespoke, innovative education project, setting a new benchmark for education facilities in the state,” he said.

“The northern region is very important to our business, with the majority of trade contractors, suppliers and well as our staff located in this region.

“Our people will feel a strong connectivity to this project, ensuring a quality of delivery that will stand for future generations.”

The Education Department recently reached a formal agreement with the City of Playford to share some facilities at the school with the council, including sporting fields and all-weather courts.

Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said the completed school site will be accessible to sporting organisations and community groups after hours, making it the central hub of Angle Vale.

“This school will be the anchor point for public education,” he said.

“Sixteen hundred students will see the quality education and quality facilities, close to home here in the northern suburbs of Adelaide, and as a mayor I can’t ask for much more than that.”

As published in The Bunyip last week, a public consultation process is currently underway on the Angle Vale school’s zoning, as well as the student in-take zones for nearby Mark Oliphant and Gawler & District Colleges.

The proposed zone for the high school includes suburbs such as Lewiston to the north, Two Wells and Virginia to the west, and parts of Munno Para West to the east.

The primary zone takes in a smaller catchment zone including parts of suburbs such as Munno Para Downs, Hillier, Lewiston, MacDonald Park and Gawler River.

The entire Angle Vale B-12 project is being delivered by TESA Education, which comprises of Tetris Capital, Dutch Infrastructure Fund, Sarah Construction and ISS Services.
