SANDY Creek Netball Club’s growth has continued in 2019, with the introduction of a new B-grade side into the Gawler & District Netball Association.
The Cockatoos stormed to the A-grade premiership in their maiden season in the G&DNA last year, and have started in similar fashion in 2019 by winning their opening two games by an average of 53 goals.
The club’s new B-grade team has also started confidently, winning both its matches comfortably.
Sandy Creek coach Scott Hill said the integration of a second senior side has been going “incredibly well”.
“The pre-season we did with the girls, we did a lot of beach work and bonding through brunches,” he said.
“This is a group of girls who got together in the B grade.
“The work our B-grade coach, 21-year-old Bailey McQuillan, has been fantastic.
“It’s a family-focused club, we have that many kids out there now that bond with each other.
“It’s turned into a great culture and a very family environment.
“We managed to jag another three or four sponsors this year.”
Additionally, Hill has been thrilled with his team’s on-court dominance.
“The results are very pleasing; to be honest, the first game was all about the B grade, it was exciting to support another Sandy Creek netball side,” he said.
“We’ve done a lot of hard work, myself and Lauri Catalano, and to see the fruits of our labour come to fruition (has been great).
“I think the B grade will be challenged at times this year, and the A grade are having some fun, but every week we set challenges on how to improve.
“The way they play their netball epitomises how much fun they have.”
