FREMONT Park has had its safety upgraded for families with the installation of new shade sails.

The sails cost $87,000 and Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said they were an important upgrade.

“It is important to create safe play spaces for local families and visitors to enjoy,” he said.

“The shade sails help to keep families protected from the sun’s UV, as well as reduces the heat of surfaces.

“We have four community reserves or play spaces set to be upgraded, including Mandeville Reserve in Davoren Park, Burdell Reserve in Elizabeth Downs,
California Reserve in Craigmore and Willison-Goodman Reserve in Elizabeth South.

“Following community consultation, these reserves are in the final stages of detailed design with construction to start this year.”

Mr Docherty said more reserves had been identified as well.

“The draft annual business plan, subject to endorsement in late June, has also identified various reserves and open spaces as part of its parks infrastructure renewal program and the open space minor works program,” he said.

“Various assets are proposed to be installed in up to 40 parks, reserves or open spaces across the City of Playford, including features such as shelter, shade and seating.”
