SA falls short of inline hockey glory
1 min read

SOUTH Australia’s senior women’s inline hockey team has narrowly missed out on back-to-back national titles, after it fell to Queensland 3-4 at the Inline Hockey National Championships at STARplex in Evanston Park on Saturday.
Led by Gawler local Bailee Major, the senior women’s side only lost one game during the group stage of the competition, meaning it automatically qualified for the grand final.
Second-placed Queensland defeated third-placed Tasmania in the semi-final, setting up a grand final between the two standout teams of the competition.
Queensland’s Jasmine Horner-Pascoe opened the scoring early in the first half, before SA’s Tara Daniels evened the score two minutes before half-time.
The game opened up in the second half, with SA taking the lead in a matter of seconds, before Queensland scored twice in quick succession to go 3-2 ahead.
Another SA goal with three minutes remaining saw it draw level again, before
Queensland’s Jasmine Horner-Pascoe broke the host’s hearts with a winner with two minutes remaining.
On a positive note for SA, the state’s veteran’s side was victorious in its grand final,
downing Victoria 3-2 in the decider.
