Running for a reason
1 min read

WILLASTON Football Club’s Trent Rozman has decided to join the Cancer Council’s March Charge, where he has committed to running 150km throughout the month of March to raise money for cancer research after his mum, Robyn, was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Rozman, 27, said the 150km figure is daunting, but that he’ll have plenty of motivation when the going gets tough.
“I think the plan is to go out as hard as I can to start with and try and knock as many K’s off the target as possible early,” he said.
“Hopefully it doesn’t leave me with a huge run at the end… the old body running around Craigmore is going to get a bit sore with all the hills.
“When it does get tough, I know I’ll be able to think of the reasons why I’m doing it… this is obviously something that doesn’t just affect us, it touches so many families.”
Rozman set a goal to raise $1000, which he hit before March began, and he said the support he’s received has been overwhelming.
“A big part of it was just to sort of show Mum that people are behind her through the battle she’s facing,” he said.
“I think that’s just the country lifestyle, you know, people getting behind each other and having their backs, and lifting people up when they’re down.
“I’ve been getting private messages from old friends from school, people I haven’t heard from in a while, just showing that the love is still there, and that’s sort of amazing.
“We wanted to show that people don’t have to battle it privately, so we’re getting out there and tackling it head on.”
