Rough day for Gawler bowlers

SUFFERING from a lack of player availability, Gawler’s division one metropolitan bowls team fell by 24-shots to ladder-leaders Tranmere.

It was not all bad news, with three competitive rinks all within five shots of its opponents.

With players constantly coming and going with different combinations each week, the team will need to have bowlers commit to the last seven games of the season if they are to have any
chance of remaining in division one.

Gawler’s division four team put in an admirable performance on the road at West Lakes.

With the home side sitting comfortably inside the top-four, the visitors pushed them all the way before eventually succumbing by 11 shots.

With the fours of Warland and Reynolds losing by the barest of margins, this team is showing good spirit considering the drain on its players each week by the division one side.

In a battle for a place in the top-four, Clearview proved too classy for Gawler’s division five team.

With home green advantage, Clearview were 34-shot winners, taking three-of-four rinks by substantial margins.

The four of Bradbrook Sr, Godfrey, James and skipper May earned the team two points with a solid 24-12 victory.

Completing a winless day for the Gawler Bowling Club, the division six team were 28- shot losers to Playford Red.

Margaret Marshman’s four were the shining light with a hard fought one-shot win.

On Thursday, Gawler’s division one ladies pushed top team Marion for a second time this season, again falling agonisingly short.

Winning the rink count 2-1, the team couldn’t quite get the job done, finishing the day five-shots adrift.

Sitting in fifth place and still in touch with the topfour, they travel this week to Payneham to face a side who will also have finals aspirations.

With no rink getting close, the division three side couldn’t back up last week’s big win.

Determined to consolidate their place in the top-four, Salisbury had too much fire power and ran out 22-shot winners, opening a gap on the fifth-placed Gawler in the process.
