TWO Wells will be hoping to become the first team since the early 1970s to win three Adelaide Plains A-grade football premierships in a row when it meets Hummocks-Watchman in this Saturday’s grand final.
The Roosters, who will be playing on their home deck at Two Wells Oval, have been dominant in recent years in the big dance, beating Mallala and Balaklava in 2017 and 2018 respectively, and now have a new challenger in the Eagles this year, who last won the flag in 2008.
Having advanced to the decider by beating Balaklava a fortnight ago, the team is confident about its chances, according to coach Neville Seccafien.
“It’ll be slightly different to going in against Balaklava,” he said.
“Hummocks have a good crew of young lads with leg speed, rebound out of the backline.
“That’s slightly different to Balaklava – they have their two gun forwards (Jason) McPharlin and (Shane) Moss, whereas Hummocks have got Henry Wright and have a bigger spread of goal-kickers.
“There’s a slightly different way we have to play them.
“Like all games of footy, whoever wins the footy will be the team that wins.”
The Roosters have beaten the Eagles twice this year, but Seccafien said that means very little.
“We had that happen three years ago, Mallala beat us three times in a year, and we beat them,” he said.
“At no stage have we trounced or thrashed them…my group will be grounded and aware.”
Meanwhile, Hummocks-Watchman coach Josh Gould is excited about leading the club into its first A-grade decider in over a decade.
“I’m feeling pretty good about it,” he said.
“It’s been a long season, and it’s the goal we had in mind.
“They’re a very good team and finished top two this year, they play good team football.”
Gould doesn’t expect many changes to his side that eliminated Balaklava in Saturday’s preliminary final.
Meanwhile, Seccafien is buoyant about Bryce Hart’s potential inclusion.
“He’ll probably come in,” he said.
“He dislocated his elbow earlier this year, did a fitness test last Thursday and he’ll do another one this week…if he gets through that, he’ll be an inclusion.”
Prediction: Two Wells by 13 points
