Road fix at Seppeltsfield
1 min read

LIGHT Regional Council has been successful in its application for funding to upgrade Gerald Roberts Road, in Seppeltsfield.

A grant of $1 million has been awarded through an extension of the Australian Government’s Drought Communities Program, which is available to council’s which were already successful in 2019.

The funding will be put towards the first stage of the Gerald Roberts Road upgrade, which will include sealing up to near Jenke Road, and a junction upgrade at Seppeltsfield Road.

Member for Barker Tony Pasin said it will result in a safer road that better connects the community, provides improved accessibility for farming/viticulture operations and encourages more tourists to the Seppeltsfield precinct.

Gerald Roberts Road is a regionally significant road that links Seppeltsfield Road with Gomersal Road, and is a potential link between the Adelaide Hills, the Western Barossa and Kapunda.

The total project cost is estimated at $3.5 million, made up of various grant funding ($2.925 million) and council funding ($575,000).

Further stages to be carried out in subsequent years include a ford upgrade to a bridge or culvert, remaining sealing, and a junction upgrade at Gomersal Road.

Light Regional Council has previously used the Drought Communities program to help fund the Wasleys Oval clubrooms, Kapunda Senior Citizens building and the FARM Centre carpark.
