PLAYFORD will have a new deputy mayor after current deputy mayor Marilyn Baker declined the nomination put forward by councillor Dennis Ryan.

The role of deputy mayor will instead be filled by Cr Peter Rentoulis, after he accepted the nomination following Cr Baker’s refusal.

“I’d like to thank you for your confidence, as the chamber is aware, I was put into this position as a result of my history in local government,” Cr Baker said.

“The previous two years have probably been the worst in my 35 years in local government, however, with the dedication of the new council, the nine new elected members and the absolute commitment of our new CEO and executive staff, I feel my job as deputy is now done.

“I sincerely believe it’s time for transition, it’s time to look for the future.”

Cr Rentoulis was proud to take on the role from Cr Baker, who held the role for two years.

“I want to thank Marilyn Baker, she’s done a fantastic job over the last two years,” he said.
