Record entries for Veteran and Vintage run

IT WAS a record turnout for the Gawler Car Club’s sixth-annual Veteran and Vintage run from Gawler to the Barossa Valley, with a new end location proving a success.

The cool weather was perfect for the veteran and vintage vehicles as they assembled before the Run on the oval at the rear of Immanuel Lutheran School on Lyndoch Road.

The oldest car taking part this year was Daisy Belle, a 1904 De Dion Bouton and famous South Australian car.

The 80-plus entrants were flagged off at 9.30am.

Local MP Tony Piccolo was there to flag off the first few cars, bound for Lyndoch.

At Lyndoch, the cars were displayed on the Village Green while the drivers and crew enjoyed morning tea served by the club’s ladies.

The convoy continued on through Tanunda to the rally finish location at the Seppeltsfield Oval, where they assembled for everyone to enjoy.

In previous years, we have finished at the Greenock Oval but this year the new location at Seppeltsfield was much more interesting.

Many members and marshals drove their classic vehicles and parked on another section of the oval, adding to the spectacle.

Many of the participants were dressed in the period costume of their vehicle, which added to the atmosphere.

Everyone enjoyed a picnic lunch and the opportunity to explore the winery and the grounds. There were many awards and raffle prizes given to the owners of the vehicles displayed.

Michael Steinborner was again our kind sponsor. The Sponsors’ Choice Trophy was awarded to GVVCVC members Nigel and Georgina Wooster for their immaculate 1917 Dodge Roadster.

The club president’s award went to Allan and Marleen Hagger in their 1929 Graham Roadster.
