Ramsey, Pasin re-elected following big swings
1 min read

LIBERALS Rowan Ramsey and Tony Pasin have been returned to the seats of Grey and Barker, respectively, after both received big swings towards them at Saturday’s federal election.

Mr Ramsey won more than 50 per cent of first preference votes and 63 per cent overall in the outback electorate of Grey, resulting in a 12 per cent swing to the Liberal Party.

Centre Alliance candidate Andrea Broadfoot was expected to be Mr Ramsey’s closest challenger, but faltered without her party’s backing from Nick Xenophon and only received five per cent of first preference votes.

Mr Ramsey thanked his “loyal supporters” for their role in his win.

“I would like to thank all of those who chose to return me and I am extremely pleased the Morrison Government has been voted in for another term,” he said.

“I also thank and congratulate the other candidates.

“It takes courage to put your name forward and then commit to a campaign involving such a large part of the state.

“I complement them on the civilised way the campaign was conducted.”

In the Liberal stronghold of Barker, Mr Pasin received the largest swing towards the party in the country, gaining an extra 14.3 per cent on top of his already sizeable lead over Labor.

As in Grey, lacklustre support for Centre Alliance candidate Kelly Gladigau contributed to the big swing towards the Liberals.

Labor candidate Mat O’Brien finished with more than 21 per cent of first preference votes, a five per cent improvement from the 2016 election.
