Poets unite for festival
1 min read

A SCALED down poetry event attracted more than 20 creatives to the Prince Albert Hotel on Sunday.

President of Adelaide Plains Poets Carolyn Cordon said the event kicked off with a book launch, followed by the annual Festival of Words event.

“'The Adelaide Plains Poets group has been holding an annual, national competition since 2005, with a different theme to write on every year,” she said.

“The theme for this year, 2020, seemed obvious when the group began thinking about what it may be – '2020 Vision', what could be better?

“The competition is advertised nationally, and this year, even with COVID-19 slowing things down, we still received good enough numbers of entries in both the Open and Junior sections.”

Mrs Cordon said it was great to have three of the award winners present at Sunday’s event.

“I hope they all think about Adelaide Plains Poets poetry competition when the word goes out about it in 2021,” she said.

“With the award-winning poets present, reading their own awarded poems, it was decided to finish off the event with yarning time, rather than an open mic poetry reading, and those present found their yarning to be useful network building time.

“Getting together with other creative people can always spark new ideas, and there’s no telling the goods that may result from it.”
