Playford councillors seek road extension

PLAYFORD councillors are uniting to see Newton Boulevard in Munno Para extended to Stebonheath Road to help alleviate congestion on Curtis Road.

Deputy Mayor Peter Rentoulis and Playford councillors Jane Onuzans, Clint Marsh and Gay Smallwood-Smith have been pushing for the move, and have said “something needs to be done”.

“Residents in the area and other road users do not need to be left waiting for years,” Cr Onuzans said.

“We want to see better connections of roads and transit times to parks, shopping, medical appointments, school drops and pick-up times, visiting families and friends, accessing the adjacent suburbs and more.

“Deputy Mayor Peter Rentoulis, Councillors Marsh, Smallwood-Smith and I met up with the City of Playford Administration and Renewal SA and discussed on site the extension of Newton Boulevard, Munno Para.

“The push is triggered by the obvious traffic congestion in Curtis Road.”

Cr Onuzans said they understand Newton Boulevard is being extended 250 meters west of the roundabout with Peachey Road, with works set to commence in the next few weeks and throughout the New Year.

Yet, the remaining 250 metres extending through to Stebonheath Road is currently not planned from a delivery perspective for another four to five years.

“Renewal SA are however committed to reviewing a previous Traffic Management Report to understand the impacts extending Newton Boulevard through to Stebonheath Road would have on Curtis Road and impacts on existing local roads with the Playford Alive Project,” Cr Onuzans said.

“This traffic review is likely to be completed in mid to late February and will be presented back to the Playford Alive Project Control Group in March for a recommendation.

“We are hopeful that as we work together, we will bring the best outcome for the residents.”
