Panthers breeze past Trinity
1 min read

TRINITY Old Scholars’ form went from bad to worse on Saturday as it was well beaten by Smithfield by 109 points in division five of the Adelaide Football League.

The TOSers had started positively, and thanks to the Panthers’ inaccuracy led by three points at quarter-time.

However, the flood gates soon opened as Smithfield booted 6.8 to Trinity’s 1.1 to snatch the lead and take control by 34 points at half-time.

Trinity was left shell-shocked and couldn’t respond to the relentless Panthers, as they kicked a further 5.2 to Trinity’s wayward 1.5.

Despite trailing already by 55 points at three-quarter-time, Trinity’s final quarter was its worst.

The Panthers booted 9.8 to the TOSers’ 1.2 to blow the margin out heavily.

Trevor-John Wanganeen had a field day for Smithfield, kicking five.

Former Angle Vale player Dylan McIver also chipped in with two majors.

For Trinity, Dylan Winning slotted two, while Lachlan Barker and Stef Cavallaro added the other two.

Earlier, Trinity knocked off Smithfield by 47 points in the reserves, in a fitting celebration of Ben Johnson’s 100th game coached for the club.

Matt Gibson was terrific with five goals, while Jordan Saunders and Sam Lainas kicked two majors each.
