Owls’ quick start secures them the premiership
1 min read

ANGLE Vale proved to be the cream of the crop in the Adelaide Plains under 14 competition as it defeated Mallala by 19 points in Saturday’s grand final at Two Wells.

Both sides had been terrific throughout the home and away campaign, losing one game apiece.

However, it was the Owls who were on top early in a low-scoring affair on the weekend.

Angle Vale booted 1.2 to nothing in the opening quarter to lead by eight points at the first change.

Nothing improved for the Magpies in the  second stanza, as the Owls kicked away after scoring the only goal for the quarter again.

Angle Vale’s lead was out to 13 points at half-time.

Not satisfied with their buffer, the Owls put the foot down as they blitzed the Pies in the third quarter.

Mallala was wasteful in front of goal, kicking four behinds to take its total to six for the game.

Meanwhile at the other end, Angle Vale was making the most of its opportunities and kicked three goals to lead by an insurmountable 27 points at the final break.

Remarkably, Angle Vale was held scoreless in the last quarter as Mallala attempted to mount an unlikely comeback.

Unfortunately for the Magpies, they kicked only 1.2 to cut the final margin to 19 points.

Jai Bunker was the only multiple goal-kicker for the day, snagging two for the Owls.

For Mallala, its sole goal-kicker was Lachlan Rudd, who finished the year with 15 goals from 16 games.

Angle Vale’s Jordan Campbell continued his terrific individual season by winning the best on ground medal.
