Ollie uses her talents to help others
1 min read

WILLIAMSTOWN’S Ollie Sharp has been able to use her talents as a self-taught musician and song writer to the benefit of others.

The Trinity Senior Gawler student has been awarded Barossa Council’s Young Citizen of the Year Award, after she performed in support of a wide-range of community and fundraising events, such as for the Cancer Council, RSPCA, Vinnies Christmas Appeal, Impact Church, Angaston Christmas Concert and local community Christmas events.

Miss Sharp said the accolade means a lot to her.

“I think it’s so exciting and such an honour to be recognised by the community because it’s such a beautiful place to live and the people are so beautiful,” she said.

“I started playing guitar for fun and learning off you tube a couple of years ago and from there I’ve been given so many opportunities by Barossa businesses and the community to be able to use
music to help others, especially through volunteering and community events.

“It’s been really fun and such a beautiful thing I can help the community with.”

Last year, Miss Sharp’s maturity and kind and caring nature were recognised with a Headmaster Scholarship, and at the 2019 Young Achiever Awards, in which she was a finalist.

Also in 2019 she was a triple J Unearthed finalist and was invited to showcase at RAW, an independent arts organisation that shines a light on independent talent.

As she heads into year 12 this year, Miss Sharp said she will be keeping music close to her heart but also working towards careers either in English teaching or cognitive neuroscience.
