Oakbank welcomes hundreds back to the track
1 min read

RACING enthusiasts from across Adelaide flocked to Oakbank Racing Club on the weekend and created some memories at the first ever Sunday Fun Day Races.
This inaugural event was the season opening for the 2020-2021 Oakbank Racing Club calendar at the historic Oakbank Racecourse.
The Sunday Fun Day featured eight races attracting strong fields for the entire day, and attracted hundreds of racegoers who hadn’t been able to be trackside at Oakbank since January.
Oakbank Racing Club chairperson Arabella Branson said this event was exciting for the club as it was its first ever spring race day to open the racing season.
“We were so excited to welcome race goers back to our track after the ‘scratching’ of our 2020 Oakbank Week at Easter due to COVID-19,” Ms Branson said.
“In 2020 our committee has changed things up, introducing new race meets as part of Oakbank Week, as well as in spring and at Christmas.
“This new spring race day was limited to just 1000 people under current COVID restrictions, so we encouraged people to get in early when the gates opened to avoid disappointment, and everyone here had a fantastic day – including me as my horse “Drop the Orange” trained by Barry Brook came through to win!”
Ms Branson acknowledged the work of new CEO Shane Collins after the Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club CEO took the reins last month.
“We congratulate new CEO Shane Collins and the team on delivery of a fantastic day trackside,” he said.
“Hopefully people come and experience our next event – the Ecycle Christmas Twilight Races on December 23 to create new lasting memories with their family, friends and children at our uniquely picturesque racecourse.”
