Nuriootpa wins third straight
1 min read

LIAM PHILLIPS
AFTER starting its Barossa,
Light & Gawler Senior
1 season with a draw and
two losses, Nuriootpa has
rattled off three consecutive
wins to be just a half-game
from the top-four.
The Tigers beat Tanunda
in round five, before scraping
past Willaston last week by
two goals, leading to a comfortable
beating of Freeling
on Saturday 66-26.
In last week’s close win,
Tigers’ coach Sallyann Vivian
said “it was all about
doing the one-percenters” to
find an edge in a tight battle,
but it was a far less stressful
clash this time around.
For Freeling, it has been a
rough season.
The Redlegs’ closest game
through seven rounds has
been a 32-goal loss at Angaston
last week, leaving the
side with 128 goals scored for
the year, and 404 against.
The wooden-spoon favourite
has its best chance at a win
this weekend when Freeling
travels to Tanunda in a clash
between two winless sides,
but the Magpies will go in as
favourites.
While this season may be
a write-off for the Redlegs,
things might not be too grim
for much longer, as Freeling’s
Intermediate 1 team is
the undefeated premiership
favourite, with the club needing
to convert those promising
juniors into long-term
Senior 1 fixtures.
