NURIOOTPA is continuing its tradition of producing elite junior teams, with both its Senior Colts and Junior Colts sides sitting atop their respective divisions with undefeated 3-0 records.
In the Senior Colts, the Tigers handed the struggling Kapunda its third straight loss after turning a tight 21-15 halftime lead into a decisive 8.5 (53) to 2.5 (17) final score, showing its class in the run home.
Freeling continued to carry the torch for its club as the most senior male side competing in 2020, nabbing a big win against reigning premiers and junior powerhouses South Gawler – kicking away in the last to win 48-32 thanks to three goals from Ronan Erskine.
Despite the Tanunda senior teams copping a hiding from Gawler Central, its 17s produced the highest score of the round as it put up 27 scoring shots to win 11.16 (82) to 8.3 (51).
Willaston are the only other undefeated side after three rounds after a strong 9.7 (61) to 4.6 (30) home win against Angaston, with Joshua Schmidt kicking three, extending his league-leading goal tally and taking best-on-ground honours.
Junior Colts saw some similar scores, with Nuriootpa holding Kapunda scoreless in the last term to extend a 7.9 (51) to 2.7 (19) win, while Freeling came from behind in the last quarter to snatch a 5.9 (39) to 4.8 (32) win from South Gawler in a great day for the club.
Tanunda showed its class in the junior ranks by handling Gawler Central 13.9 (87) to 2.4 (16), while Angaston played a near-perfect game at Willaston, leaving with a 10.10 (70) to 1.3 (9) victory.
In the Under 13s, Freeling, led by seven goals combined from Jordan Wendelborn and Cooper Reed, completed the sweep against South Gawler with a dominant 12.8 (8) to 2.4 (16) showing.
Kapunda rode two Jack Ryan goals to win a low-scoring slog 3.4 (22) to 1.2 (8) at Kapunda, leaving the Tigers as the only 0-3 side with plenty of room to grow to fill the shoes of the older groups.
Gawler Central ran over Tanunda to win 9.10 (64) to 2.1 (13) and in doing so remained one of two unbeaten sides, with Angaston Blue kicking inaccurately, but dominating play against Willaston to secure its own 3-0 record with a 4.10 (34) to 3.0 (18) triumph.
