Nothing plain about growers’ new website
1 min read

NORTHERN Adelaide Plains’ vegetable growers plan to showcase their region to the world with the launch of a brand-new website.

A joint initiative between Munno Para’s Stretton Centre, Northern Adelaide Plains growers and the State Government, the website aims to connect the area’s horticulturalists with the businesses and people who buy their food.

Industry stakeholders gathered at the Virginia Horticulture Centre last Tuesday as primary industries minister Tim Whetstone launched the website.

He said the new site was “a window into the contribution this region makes to the state’s economic growth, and the role growers play from paddock to plate”.

“The website is an important step in promoting the Northern Adelaide Plains as a premier food region producing approximately 200,000 tonnes of fresh produce and over $300 million in farm gate value annually,” Mr Whetstone added.

“The State Government is proud to be collaborating with the Stretton Centre and other regional stakeholders on the Northern Adelaide Plains.”

The website includes profiles on growers, an overview of the history of the region and recipes for the best way to cook the area’s fresh produce.

Northern Adelaide Plains Food Cluster chair Barrie Lloyd said the region was pleased and proud to share its passion for the Northern Adelaide Plains.

“Our growers and local businesses are passionate, skilled, and excited to showcase this through the new Northern Adelaide Plains website,” he said.

“The region is home to a large number of passionate family businesses, often with several generations working together to deliver high quality produce that’s increasingly being grown with high-tech, innovative techniques.

“The State Government’s support for our cluster program has been invaluable in galvanising the region through closer collaboration, to build innovation and economic growth.

“Collaboration is central to this success, and our new website is a visible embodiment of our region coming together to progress shared priorities and pursue opportunities.”
