New upgrades modernise Evanston Gardens school
1 min read

EVANSTON Gardens Primary School has officially opened its new education facilities, with the upgrades expected to grow the historic school’s size.

Education minister John Gardner and Member for Light Tony Piccolo came together to open the new facilities at a ceremony on Friday.

The upgrades included four new classrooms, a studio learning area, a new library resource centre and a new administration building.

School principal Nikki Priestman said the upgrades would allow for the growing population of the area to have easy access to a primary school.

“It’s really modernised the school and allowed us to have some 21st century learning and contemporary facilities,” she said.

“We’ve noticed growth over the past five years and we’ve been slowly adding classes as the community and the new housing in the area develops.

“When people are wanting to come here, we welcome them, and we will continue to grow as families move in to the area.”

Mr Piccolo previously spent around a decade lobbying successive education ministers for the school to be upgraded while his Labor Party were in power, with funding eventually released by the previous Weatherill Labor Government.

Mr Piccolo said it was important for parents around Evanston Gardens to have a wider of choice of schools for their children.

“It’s great to see this community get the physical schools and building which they deserve,” he said.

“The old buildings and the old school unfortunately detracted from what was a very good school in terms of teachers.”

The opening of the new buildings was followed by the school’s spring fete, with many parents in attendance for both events.
