AS construction progresses on one of the region’s newest schools, the time has come to give it an official name.
Four potential names have been shortlisted by the State Government for the new Angle Vale birth to year 12 school, set to open in 2022.
They are: Angle Vale & District College B-12, Riverbanks College B-12, Gawler River College B-12, or Adelaide Plains College B-12.
The community has the opportunity to share its thoughts and contribute to the final choice, with a consultation period now open until Friday, October 2.
The school’s naming coincides with the government’s naming of two other schools, at Aldinga, and Whyalla.
Education minister John Gardner said that naming each of the new schools was a significant step in connecting the new schools with their community.
“Deciding on a new name is a significant step in forming the identity for these new schools,” Mr Gardner said.
“We are confident that contribution from the local community into the names will provide a sense of connection and ownership between the schools and their prospective communities.”
The proposed names for each school were developed by advisory committees made up of the school’s principal, neighbouring school staff and local parents.
A survey for the new Angle Vale school name can be found online by following the link on the education department’s Angle Vale b-12 school page.
There is also the option to suggest a different name.
However, the name must relate to the official suburb, township, locality or road; have a historical connection within the area (e.g. early homestead name);
honour a relevant South Australian citizen; be an Aboriginal name of a local geographical feature; or be an Aboriginal word or words that reflect a theme related to educational outcomes or cultural focus of the school.
The Angle Vale school, located at 28 Riverbanks Road, is due to welcome its first students in January 2022 and will cater for 1675 students by 2026.
