New life for four surplus cabins at redeveloped caravan park
1 min read

FOUR surplus cabins from Nuriootpa’s Barossa Tourist Park will be rehomed at the Mount Pleasant Caravan Park as part of an upgrade at the site.

Talunga Park’s Mount Pleasant Caravan Park is about to undergo a $2 million redevelopment to add two two-bedroom cabins, 24 formalised, powered caravan pitches, a new camp kitchen and visitor amenities.

A Barossa Council report said an extra four cabins at the Barossa Tourist Park, where ensuite suites are being installed, could provide a cost-effective, additional revenue stream and service level improvement for the Talunga Park project.

“The four cabins were constructed circa 1980; however, (they) are in good basic condition,” it states.

“Mount Pleasant Progress Association Inc (has) inspected the cabins and they are interested in securing them in addition to the existing scope of the Mount Pleasant Caravan Park upgrade project.

“As part of the grant funding approval, council will be delivering two new two-bedroom cabins and this proposal is in addition to those already committed in the project.”

The Talunga Park project is being funded by a $1.2 million council contribution as part of its The Big Project, as well as a grant of $817,286 through the Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program.

The addition of the four cabins, including transport to their new site, is estimated to cost $43,600.

The money has been raised using reserves from the Talunga Park project, with a reprioritisation of funds previously allocated to the now-cancelled Talunga Park hybrid power upgrade research project, as well as a new $14,743 cash contribution from council.

Construction of the project is expected to start in September and is required to be completed by September 2023.
