Miles reflects on highs and lows
1 min read

ANGASTON skipper Jack Miles has seen plenty of lows at the Panthers, but this Saturday he gets a crack at the holy grail of the Barossa, Light & Gawler Football Association.

Prior to this season, Miles had never played in an A-grade final, despite being a regular feature in the club’s team since 2011.

However, the local lad is now eager to see his club on the big stage.

“It’s an amazing feeling, from where we’ve been the last few years, we knew we’d be around the mark with a few returning locals that we got back and then obviously the cream of the group with (Jay) Shannon, (Steve) Summerton and (Marc) Borholm,” he said.

“A lot of the boys I’ve grown up with and played juniors with, the bonds we have is unreal, and to achieve something special like that with them on Saturday would be an amazing feeling.”

The Panthers have shot to the top of the ladder with those high profile inclusions, after winning just one game last season and finishing last.

The club’s toughest point in 2018 was succumbing to fellow struggler Gawler Central at home, but even after that match, Miles believed his team was on the verge of something big.

“It might sound funny, I didn’t even think we were too far away from success in the near future,” he said.

“The main reason being we’ve got a core group of local lads that have really stuck together through thick and thin the last few years.

“We’ve had some rough patches the last couple of years, we knew if we could add that bit of polish with imports, success wasn’t too far away.

“We lost a fair few games by under 10 points, so we sort of knew we added to that a bit more depth and we’d be fine.”

Miles will line up in defence on Saturday against one of the best attacks in the competition, Tanunda.
