Milera joins guernsey unveiling

TRINITY College unveiled its first-ever indigenous jumper on Thursday night, which will be worn by the school’s first 18 team when it plays against Immanuel College in a few weeks’ time.

Trinity welcomed old scholar and current Adelaide Crows star Wayne Milera to help unveil the design, which was created by year nine student Aaron Walker.

Milera, who graduated from the college in 2015, said seeing the guernsey was a “pretty special moment”.

“I haven’t noticed any of the other colleges doing anything like this,” he said.

“I don’t know if they (Trinity) are the first ones to do it, but it’s pretty special to see them connecting with their indigenous students and really rallying around the concept.”

Milera made his debut for the Crows in round one of 2016, and has played 40 games since.

During that inaugural year, he made his first-ever Indigenous Round appearance against Greater Western Sydney.

“The build-up, and what happens all week is a special moment,” Milera said.

“It’s a special week, just letting everyone know about your culture.”

The 21-year-old also praised Trinity’s guernsey design.

“I like the meaning, it’s the most important part of the guernseys,” he said.

“They have a great meaning and they turned out really well.”

Trinity College co-ordinator of college football George Gregory was delighted to see the finished product.

“We asked indigenous students around the college if they could come up with a design,” he said.

“Aaron’s design was chosen, he presented it to (Trinity College headmaster) Nick Hately, who thought it was a good choice.

“We had to get it approved by the local elder, and the process started towards getting here.”

The college’s first 18 will wear the guernsey as a clash jumper in future games.
