McGree up for another award

GAWLER football star Riley McGree is up for another award after his sensational season with Adelaide United in the A-League, shortlisted for the Asia’s Choice Fan Awards for Best Young Player in 2020.
McGree, who now plays for English club Birmingham City, is the only Australian on the shortlist, which also features players from Italy’s Serie A and Spain’s La Liga.
He scored 10 goals in 23 appearances in his return to the Reds during the 2019/20 season after stints with Melbourne City and famously at Newcastle, where he scored the Puskas Award-nominated scorpion kick goal.
The 22-year-old was sold to Major League Soccer expansion side Charlotte FC in October, and was loaned to Birmingham prior to the MLS side’s debut year in 2022.
He scored a goal only minutes into his debut with Birmingham and has played eight games for the 2011 League Cup winners.
