2 min read

ANGASTON trainer Tony McEvoy celebrated a treble at the Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club’s Anzac Day race meeting this past week.

McEvoy had winners in the third, fifth and sixth races on the card, capping off a terrific individual day.

Ryan Balfour’s Masipag won the first race, a class two handicap over 1106m, from Richard Jolly’s Regalo Di Gaetano and Jordan Frew’s Perfek.

It was the five-year-old mare’s third career victory, and second of the season – it’s last coming back in August at Gawler.

Wayne Francis and Glen Kent celebrated in race two, over 1206m, with their fouryear- old gelding, Extreme Thrill, overcoming McEvoy’s Be My Star and Karen Byrnes’ Azzuro Bianco.

It was Extreme Thrill’s second consecutive win, with its last coming at Morphettville last month.

McEvoy’s first win was Hinchpin, with the two-yearold outlasting Stuart Gower’s $101-outsider Hez A Wolf and Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas’ Racy Rosie in race three (1506m).

In race four, over the 1260m trip, Nicole Bruggemann’s Maxsamia won in front of David Jolly’s Doctor Doolittle and Ryan Balfour’s Rushwa.

It was the five-year-old gelding’s third career win, and its third of the season.

In race five, over 1206m, McEvoy celebrated his second victory of the day when You Hadme At Hello beat Peter Jolly’s It’s Magic and Mick Kluske’s Respectable, which started as a $51 outsider.

It was the two-year-old filly’s first win in just its second race.

McEvoy then celebrated the treble and a second consecutive winner in race six (1506m) with Indrabeel.

The four-year-old mare defeated Kristi Evans’ Mabel Josephine and Grant Young’s Time Rogue.

In race seven (1206m), Will Clarken’s Orbost stormed home ahead of Marilyn Smith’s Containment and McEvoy’s Al Naifa.

It was the three-year-old Filly’s second career win, with its first coming back at Gawler in April last year.

In the final race on thecard (1706m), Grant Kluske’s Don’t Dismiss took home the $10,000 prize in front of Shayne Cahill’s Dexter You Devil and Mark Minervini’s Wyuna.

It was the five-year-old Gelding’s third career win, and its first since November, where it won at Moe.

The next meeting at Gawler will be on May 12, before the Barossa Cup is run on May 22.
