A MAN has died following a two-car crash on the Sturt Highway at Gawler Belt on Thursday.
Emergency services were called to the Gawler exit ramp of the highway after reports two cars had collided, with one catching fire, just after 11am.
The driver of one car, a 51-year-old Ridgehaven man, died at the scene.
The driver of the second car, a 61-year-old Barossa Valley woman, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The Ridgehaven man’s death took the state’s road toll to 73, compared to 45 at the same time last year.
The Sturt Highway Gawler offramp was closed in both directions until 5pm while major crash investigators attended the scene.
It was the first of two major crashes this week, with a man taken to hospital in a critical condition on Sunday night after being ejected from his car in a collision at Kudla.
Just after midnight, police were called to Dalkeith Road, near Coventry Road, after a Holden ute hit a stobie pole, bringing down power lines.
The 29-year-old male driver and sole occupant of the ute was ejected from the vehicle on impact and was treated at the scene for multiple injuries before being rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition.
A section of Dalkeith Road remained closed on Sunday morning while SA Power Networks replaced the damaged stobie pole.
