AN elderly man has died after flames engulfed his Two Wells home on Saturday evening.
A passer-by called police and emergency services to the Williams Road property just after 7pm, where they found a house well alight.
Seven fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze, before discovering the body of a 71-year-old man inside.
The home was completely destroyed, causing around $100,000 in damage, with investigators yet to determine what caused the fire.
Nearby resident Cheryl Grant was shocked to see fire engines rush to the usually quiet street.
“They (the flames) were about 10 feet above the roof of the house. It was well and truly alight so quick,” she said.
“I only heard something when the emergency services were coming through, I didn’t hear anything else.
“My dogs were going nuts, so I went out and saw what was happening and just thought ‘oh my god’.
“You just keep out of the way and let the professionals do their job because there was so many there.
“The firies were there really quick and got it under control, unfortunately it just took hold of the house so fast.”
Mrs Grant added the fire’s victim was a quiet man who “kept to himself”.
“It was just him (the 71-year-old man) and his son that lived there, but it was only him at home at the time,” she said.
