Magro continues great run
2 min read

GAWLER trainer Darren Magro continued his recent run of success with yet another winner at the Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club on Wednesday afternoon.

In the third race on the card, Magro’s seven-year-old gelding Spiegel Grove ran its second win this season, beating out Travis Doudle’s Sagaab and Grant Young’s Exalted Craftsman.

The win takes Spiegel Grove’s record to two wins and one place in 2019-20, continuing its good form from the end of last season, where it won its last race of the season at Gawler.

To start the day, Grant Young celebrated the first winner of two for the day, as Todd Pannell rode Exalted Ambition to a win over Greg Lesnikowski’s Wicked Weekend and Steve Schrader’s Sirius Journey.

It was only the three-year-old gelding’s second career run, and its maiden career win.

In race two, Steven Pateman’s four-year-old gelding Zubrowka beat out Travis Doudle’s Red Valentine by half a length and Kirsten Mooney’s Groove With Me.

It was the perfect start for Zubrowka’s season, and it was its only win since April at Grafton.

In the fourth race of the day,  Phillip Stokes’ Jacobite Prince took out the win by just over a length from Grant Young’s Exalted Hands and Dennis O’Leary’s Mr Ranger.

It was the three-year-old gelding’s first ever run.

In race five, Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas’ celebrated Carlaluisa’s tight win in front of Ryan Balfour and Julia Macgillivray’s Enough Swagger.

It was the four-year-old mare’s first run of the season, and its only win since January, which was also at Gawler.

Grant Young secured the double with $11 outsider Exalted Ruth in race six.

The four-year-old mare beat out Ricky Moore’s Rothmoore and Phillippe Huserot’s Cause We Can.

It made it two wins from three starts this season for Exalted Ruth, with the other also coming at Gawler a month ago.

Ryan Balfour had a winner in the final race of the card with Zagato Star just pipping Peter Blanch’s Scare Campaign and Emma Hubbard’s Sand Cat.

It was the five-year-old mare’s only run of the season, and its first win since it was successful at Balaklava in February.

Unfortunately in the same race, Gary Searle’s Balwarra Gold suffered an injury, and it was euthanised.
