Magpies put on a T20 show
2 min read

SOUTH Gawler fell well short in Saturday’s Barossa and Light Cricket Association A1 T20 fixture at Tanunda as the hosts ran up a score of 2/201 after winning the toss and choosing to
bat.
Magpie opener and new player-coach of Tanunda’s A-grade football side, Sam Colquhoun, put together a terrific innings to finish 73 not-out from 55 deliveries, including three sixes.
He enjoyed a 129-run partnership with Jonathon Justin (71 not-out from 40 deliveries) as the Lions’ bowling attack had no
answer.
Needing a hot start to stand a chance, South Gawler got off to a respectable position of 1/61 before the wickets started to
tumble.
Tanunda opening batsman Trent Goers showed his ability with the ball as he took 3/31, while Bailey Smith chipped in with 2/17 as only Jarrod Kroon (34) and David Golder (31) put together nice innings.
The Lions’ time ran out on 8/131, falling by 70 runs.
Blues by 10 wickets
Angaston pulled off a rare 10-wicket victory at Nuriootpa after dismissing the Tigers for just 58, as Benjamin Antonie registered spectacular figures of 5/1 with two maidens in
3.3 overs.
The Angaston opening pair of Beau Byster (42 not-out) and Greg Bain (17 not-out) needed no assistance to chase down the total in five overs for an early
finish.
Mallala defends
low total
Mallala successfully defended its total of 7/134 at home against Gilbert Valley, with the Magpies bowlers rising to the occasion.
Batting first, Mallala’s Matthew Birchmore (57) and captain Brad Wilson (31) provided the majority of their side’s production, while the Bulls’ Sam Goodfellow chipped in with a handy 3/15 in his three overs of work.
After changing sides, James Vandeleur (40) top scored for Gilbert Valley in its chase, but he was the only Bull to finish with more than 16 runs.
Cockatoos deny Schlungers
Sandy Creek put together a strong all-round effort at home against Greenock, putting up a total of 7/168 after being sent in
to bat.
Cockatoo opener Jamie Diener got his side off to a terrific start after blasting 30 from 15 deliveries, but it was Austin Poulton who provided the match-altering knock as he flew to 77, with 13 of the 48 balls he faced being sent to the boundary.
Greenock’s chase started in promising fashion as opener Jamie McCafferty (23) and Ben Thiel (26) guided the Schlungers to 1/57, but when they both fell, the tail quickly followed as 4/83 turned
into 9/98.
Jamie Sibbick (3/16) and Nathan Gum (2/11) were the top Cockatoo wicket-takers, while teenager Will O’Brien had an efficient two-over spell taking 1/3.
