SOUTH Gawler has continued to inflict pain on bottom side Tanunda, defeating it by 47 goals in Barossa, Light & Gawler senior one netball on Saturday.
The Lions were a class above from the get-go and scored 18 goals to the Pies’ three to open up a 15-goal lead at quarter-time.
Tanunda hit back in the second quarter, scoring 10 goals, but South was relentless when going forward, scoring a further 17 goals to blow the margin out to 22 at half-time.
The Magpies were unable to match it with the premiership contenders in the second half, and only scored nine more goals for the game, compared to the Lions’ 34.
South Gawler playing-coach Bec Brading said the win was a great confidence booster.
“Tanunda came out hard and they wanted to try and push us,” she said.
“We made sure we focused on what we’ve been working on and keeping it simple.
“We can go into this week doing the right things.”
After scoring 69 goals for the round, Brading heaped praise on her accurate shooters.
“Kelsey (Wilksch) shot well, we did move around quite a bit to test out some different options,” she said.
“Emma (Lange) shot well too, and Sophie Lee played very well in the first half until she injured her hamstring after coming up from under 17s.”
The Magpies will enjoy the week off, while the Lions face Nuriootpa, which is desperate to keep its finals hopes alive.
“We expect them to be quite physical, a lot of the feedback we’ve been getting is that they’re quite physical; they try to get under the goalies’ skins,” Brading said.
“We’ll be working with that with the goalies, we’ll be looking to work harder, and get away from the player.”
