Magpie bowlers turn it up against hapless Bulls
2 min read

STARTING day two of its Barossa & Light Cricket Association A1 fixture against Gilbert Valley in a precarious position, undefeated Tanunda wrestled back the ascendancy with a dominant bowling performance to take a relatively comfortable win.
Defending 193, Tanunda saw the Bulls make their way to 2/54 before stumps on day one, but after Trent Goers claimed the wicket of opener Riley McInerney for a team-best 37 runs, the wheels fell off Gilbert Valley’s chase.
3/69 quickly turned into 7/91 as Goers produced one of his best bowling performances of the season, taking 5/28 with 10 maidens from 25 overs of spin.
Oscar Harms (2/24) cleaned up the tail, dismissing batters 10 and 11 for ducks to bowl the Bulls out for 126 and finish off a 67-run win for the league-leaders.
Mallala makes it
look easy
Mallala moved to within a game of the top-four after a percentage-boosting win at South Gawler, easily finishing the job of chasing 130 after starting day two at
2/107.
Matthew Birchmore (58), Robert Montgomery (46 not-out), Caleb Evans (49) and Cameron Curnow (47) all took the opportunity to find some touch for the Magpies, racking up a score of 6/222 in less than 40 overs before sending the Lions back in to bat, trailing by 92 with almost 50 overs to survive to avoid an outright loss.
It was a much better showing with the bat the second time around for South Gawler, with Jarrod Kroon (44) and opener Daniel Jeffery (41) helping to bat out the day to finish on 6/152, forcing Mallala to settle for a first-innings victory.
Nuri holds onto fourth place
Nuriootpa had a terrific second day with the bat, taking a crucial three-wicket win against Greenock to hold Mallala out of the finals picture for another week.
Kicking off day two at 0/34 chasing 228, the opening pair of Luke Steinborner (54) and Daniel Moore (43) gave their side an excellent platform to build from.
The next two batsmen out of the sheds contributed 17 and 24 respectively, before Aaron Wilson came to the crease for a match-winning knock of 77 from 60 deliveries, including four maximums among his 12 boundaries.
Ben Verne was strong with the ball for the Schlungers, taking 4/49 in 17 overs, but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers finished the day at 9/255 and are now just one round away from finals.
Cockatoos make statement on eve
of finals
After putting up a massive score of 4/236 on day one, Sandy Creek couldn’t have asked for a better start to Angaston’s chase after opener Jack Miles was dismissed for a duck by Jamie Diener.
Diener went on to take five more wickets to finish with figures of 6/59 from 19 overs, with only Greg Bain’s 75 runs keeping Angaston’s final score respectable, finishing all out for 147.
The result sees Sandy Creek create a gap between itself in third and the rest of the chasing pack, locking in its finals berth.
