LUTHERAN extended its solid run in Gawler & District A-grade netball with a four-goal victory over St George’s on Saturday.

Both teams came out firing to get a steady lead in the first half with consistent ball movement aided by Lutheran’s Bianca Sanntag Lutheran had a five-goal halftime lead, but it was soon challenged
by St George’s.

With accurate shooting from Brooke Phelps, it was able to keep the margin to a minimum only to walk away with a four-goal loss, with the final score being 28-24.

Meanwhile, Sandy Creek  continued to prove its dominance against Gumnuts by adding another win to its undefeated streak.

The fresh-faced Gumnuts team showed some promising moves in defence in the first quarter, with Georgia Furst and Stacey Challen making the Cockatoos’ shooters Alyssa Wilson and Amber Rogers work hard for every goal.

However, Sandy Creek was fluent in its movement up and down the court and goalkeeper Jenny Dyson made it very difficult for Gumnuts to capitalise on turnovers.

Gumnuts lost to the ladder leaders 17-59.

In the remaining match, Virginia and Xavier Saints battled it out, with the former emerging victorious.

Virginia’s Melissa Erikson was unstoppable in goals, aided by Grace Nicol in goal attack.

Although Virginia got away to an early lead, the new-look Xavier team’s fighting spirit kept it going throughout the game, and it rotated players through different positions to try and narrow the margin.

Xavier’s Erynne Miller worked tirelessly across the whole court trying to give her team a chance, but Xavier couldn’t make the connections.

Virginia won 52-23.

In B grade, Xavier Saints took the court against newcomers Sandy Creek.

While Sandy Creek proved too strong in the end, Xavier came to play and provided great competition, trailing by just one goal at half-time.

Sandy Creek’s Danielle Penfold proved to be an asset, intercepting many attempts into Xavier’s goal circle.

Xavier’s Kristy Schultz also proved to be effective through the mid-court, creating options for her team, but her side still lost by 13 goals.

Also in B grade, Virginia faced off against St George’s.

While the score remained tight for the first half, Virginia ran away in the second half to score a 40-29 win.
