Local’s plea for stolen gopher’s return

A GAWLER resident is peading for the return of her Merits Eco 745 mobility scooter after it was stolen last week.

The victim, 81-year-old Marcia Evorall, said she needs the gopher on account of her health.

“At the moment I’ve got gout, I got rid of it when I had it 18 months ago but it came back,” she said.

“I run around on my gopher all the time.

“It’s easier for me to do that.”

However, Ms Evorall said the theft was “her fault”, but luckily is insured.

“I left the key in it and that’s my fault,” she said.

“I left it on the corner up here at Tod Street at 4pm while I was at the bank, and when I came back I could see it wasn’t there.

“Then I had to walk home with my gouty toe.

“I’ve survived and will survive, but you’re not allowed to go on a gopher unless you’re over 55, if you’re under 55 you need a doctor’s certificate.

“I thought in the spur of the moment, someone old wanted a gopher.”

Ms Evorall added because of that reason, she wouldn’t want to press charges.

“Even if I found them I wouldn’t even want to press charges, I left the key in the lock,” she said.

“It would’ve been different if they’d wheeled it out the back or from my front yard.

“I rang the police straight away and they came down and were very nice.

“They said I might not get it back in the same way.

“You don’t know, it might return.”

If you have any information on Ms Evorall’s gopher, please contact police.
