Locals frustrated with dangerous crossing

RESIDENTS are concerned about safety around the crossing at the Trinity College Gawler River campus.

Parent Kylee Rana, whose children attend the school, said she saw near-misses frequently.

“Someone’s gonna get hit and it’s going to be a child, because they’re not going to be able to see the danger coming like the adults,” she said.

“I think child and parent safety is at least weekly misses. I can count on the number of times I’ve been involved in a few myself, and followed the right protocols to report them if possible.

“We’re a parent, and when you’re walking probably four kids in the morning, it’s extremely scary.

“Kids should be able to walk safely to school. I actually don’t feel comfortable with them walking to school at the moment.”

Councillor Clint Marsh is rallying for the community to get behind an
upgrade to the section, despite it receiving one less than a decade ago.

“This was probably about four or six years ago,” he said. “This was upgraded through the efforts of the local community through a petition
and through our deputy mayor Peter Rentoulis last term.

“What you see is the first upgrade to this where there was no pedestrian crossing.

“It’s now time with the changes of Angle Vale, turning from a township to suburbia and with frequent reports to upgrade this.

“I can confirm that staff have had near-misses here at this school, parents who’ve had near-misses and both staff and parents have both actually lodged reports with SAPOL with this one, so parents are serious
in their message, and they’re actually taking the next step and actually
reporting people.

“Traffic management probably has an issue as well with the design of this road and the entry-exits.

“What I do encourage is residents to continue the advocating and the effort that the school has done.”
