Local Red Cross volunteers recognised for their service
1 min read

THREE Lyndoch Australian Red Cross members have been rewarded for long service to the organisation, including one lady who has spent 40 years volunteering her time to help others.
The group met at the Lyndoch Institute last Monday to reward members Pat Lean, Chris Field and Monica Wohlstadt with service medals.
Mrs Lean in particular was recognised for 40 years of service to the organisation, after first joining the Australian Red Cross Modbury chapter in 1980.
She has now been associated with the Lyndoch branch for almost 20 years, helping bake for trading tables events, running raffles and volunteering at the Red Cross blood bank in Nuriootpa.
Mrs Wohlstadt, talking about Mrs Lean last week, said the 90-year-old was a friend to many and served several local service groups.
“It is a known fact Pat has volunteered at the local op shop on a Friday and then come home to bake in the evening for a Saturday morning Red Cross trading table, making it a very long day,” she said.
“At 90-years-young and with a huge zest for life, it has been a pleasure and inspiration, not only to branch members, but to myself personally to volunteer and be a good friend with Pat”.
Mrs Wohlstadt and Mrs Field were presented with 10-year service medals as thanks for a decade of support for the Red Cross organisation.
Mrs Field is also a volunteer at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, having knitted hundreds of trauma teddies for young kids.
Inside her decade in the group, Mrs Wholstadt has been secretary and president and was presented with the national Australian Red Cross outstanding service award in 2018.
